IP-Rights and Patents: An Introduction for Scientists and Entrepreneurs

What is it about?

The presentation is an introduction to IP-rights. It summarizes key features of patent, trademarks, and designs. Special focus will be on patents: what does a patent protect, how can I get a patent, what shall I consider if I want to obtain patent protection for my invention. Further, the presentation deals with benefits of IP-rights for start-ups.

About the speaker

Urs Ferber is a European and German patent attorney. He worked for several Munich-based patent law firms before joining Mewburn Ellis in 2020 in its Munich office. Urs represents clients before the EPO (European Patent Office) and DPMA (German Patent and Trade Mark Office), principally in the engineering and medical technology sectors. Urs has a special interest in optics and microscopy. He has a master’s degree in physics with focus on biophysics. He then completed his PhD at University College Dublin/Ireland.
